Not sure if your VAT & Corporate Tax compliance is correct?
Find potential tax issues before they become costly problems. A Tax Health Check is a structured review of your VAT and Corporate Tax position against FTA requirements — so you know where you stand before the FTA tells you.
- 01Are your VAT returns filed and paid on time, every period?
- 02Do your tax invoices meet FTA's mandatory format requirements?
- 03Is Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) on imports accounted for correctly?
- 04Are you claiming input VAT only on genuinely eligible expenses?
- 05Has your business assessed whether Corporate Tax registration applies to it?
- 06Do you know your Corporate Tax filing deadline?
- 07Have you assessed eligibility for Small Business Relief or Free Zone 0% status?
- 08Are your financial records organised and audit-ready?
- 09Have related-party transactions been reviewed for tax exposure?
- 10Do you have a system for tracking upcoming FTA deadlines?
- 11Has it been over 12 months since your last VAT or Corporate Tax review?

Frequently asked questions
Common questions on UAE VAT and Corporate Tax. For your specific situation, book a free consultation.
VAT
What is VAT and who needs to register?
VAT (Value Added Tax) is a tax on the supply of most goods and services in the UAE. Businesses whose taxable supplies exceed the FTA's mandatory registration threshold must register; businesses below that but above the voluntary threshold may register by choice. Thresholds are set by the FTA and can change, so always confirm the current figures on the EmaraTax portal or with a Tax Agent before relying on them.
How often do I need to file VAT returns?
Most VAT-registered businesses file on a quarterly or monthly cycle, as assigned by the FTA at registration. Your exact filing frequency is shown on your EmaraTax account.
What happens if I file or pay VAT late?
Late filing and late payment can both trigger FTA administrative penalties, which increase the longer a return or payment remains outstanding. We track your deadlines and prepare returns ahead of time to avoid this.
Can my business claim a VAT refund?
If your input VAT (VAT you paid) exceeds your output VAT (VAT you collected) in a period, you may be eligible to claim the difference back from the FTA, subject to their conditions and documentation requirements.
What is the Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM)?
RCM shifts the responsibility for accounting for VAT from the supplier to the recipient, most commonly on imports of goods and certain cross-border services. It's accounted for on your VAT return rather than charged by the supplier directly.
Corporate Tax
Does my business need to register for Corporate Tax?
In general, UAE businesses and Free Zone entities are required to register for Corporate Tax with the FTA, regardless of whether tax is ultimately due. Registration deadlines are tied to your trade licence issue date — confirm your specific deadline on EmaraTax or with a Tax Agent.
Are Free Zone companies exempt from Corporate Tax?
Not automatically. A Free Zone entity may qualify for a 0% rate on certain "Qualifying Income" if it meets the FTA's Qualifying Free Zone Person conditions; income outside those conditions is generally taxed at the standard rate. Eligibility needs to be assessed case by case.
What is Small Business Relief?
Small Business Relief is an election available to eligible UAE resident businesses below a revenue threshold set by the FTA, allowing them to be treated as having no taxable income for Corporate Tax purposes for that period, subject to conditions. Confirm current thresholds and conditions before relying on them.
When is my Corporate Tax return due?
Corporate Tax returns are generally due within 9 months of the end of your relevant Tax Period, as shown on your EmaraTax account. We track this deadline for clients under our compliance management.
What records do I need to keep for Corporate Tax?
Businesses are expected to maintain financial statements and supporting records (invoices, contracts, ledgers) sufficient to demonstrate the taxable income reported, generally for a period specified by the FTA. Audit-ready records make any future FTA query far easier to handle.
UAE VAT and Corporate Tax rates, thresholds and deadlines are set by UAE federal law and the Federal Tax Authority, and can change. The answers above describe how each mechanism generally works; they are not a substitute for advice on your specific circumstances. Always confirm current rates, thresholds and deadlines on the FTA's official EmaraTax portal or by speaking with us directly.
